YOUNG CHURCH: Paul’s First Missionary Journey

Overview

The early church didn’t stay still. It moved, it multiplied, and it made waves. In Acts 13–14, we witness the first official missionary journey led by Paul and Barnabas. Sent by the Holy Spirit and commissioned by the church in Antioch, they boldly take the gospel beyond familiar territory. They travel through Cyprus and Asia Minor, preaching to both Jews and Gentiles, performing miracles, and facing fierce opposition.

Yet despite the hardships, persecution, rejection, and even near-death experiences, they don’t quit. Instead, they press on with faith, trusting that the message of Jesus is worth the cost. Everywhere they go, seeds of the gospel are scattered. Some fall on hard ground. Others take root and grow. By the end of the journey, not only have they proclaimed the gospel, but they’ve also established churches and strengthened new believers in the faith.

This journey isn’t just Paul’s story; it’s a challenge for us, too. We may not hop on a boat and head to Antioch, but we are called to live mission-minded lives. Whether it’s across the globe or across the lunchroom, God can use us to bring light into dark places. His mission is still unfolding, and He invites us to be a part of it.
